Cleveland Browns vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
NFL: Saturday, August 26, 7:30 PM EST
Line: Tampa Bay -4, 42
The Cleveland Browns take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3 of the NFL preseason. The Browns are a perfect (2–0) in the preseason after victories over the Saints and Giants. The Buccaneers have played twice on the road, losing at Cincinnati before beating Jacksonville.
Cleveland traded for Brock Osweiler in the off season and now head coach Hue Jackson may have a quarterback controversy on his hands. There are decisions to be made before opening day: trade Osweiler and start rookie DeShone Kizer or second year QB Cody Kessler? Or simply keep Osweiler to start the season and hand the keys to the future quarterback in due time?
The Browns may be better served, though, if they hand the keys immediately to Kizer. He has gotten the most opportunity during the preseason, completing 19 of 31 passes for 258 yards and a touchdown. In Kizer’s nine preseason series, he produced three touchdowns and a field goal. Kizer will get the start in tonight’s game vs the Bucs.
Will Tampa Bay be a Playoff Contender in 2017?
This could be the year that Tampa Bay QB Jameis Winston takes his game, and team, to the next level. The third-year quarterback’s improved accuracy has been on display this preseason, completing 71.9 percent of his passes and averaging 7.02 yards per attempt through the first two games. While it’s still preseason, typically a third-year quarterback will make the most improvement in his 3rd year and Winston has plenty of weapons that surround him in the offense. Doug Martin, OJ Howard, Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson all will have a chance to lead this Buccaneers offense.
The third week of the preseason is typically a dress rehearsal for the regular season as the majority of starters will sit out in the 4th preseason game. I think the Buccaneers are a playoff team this season and they know exactly who the QB will be on opening day. You can’t say the same for the Browns and this may cause some turmoil in the locker room. I like the Bucs at this stage in the game and I like them as -3 point home favorites.
