Infographic: Verizon Ventures’ 2016 Year in Review

By Andrew Der

Verizon Ventures capped off a successful year culminating in a record number of investments. From connected devices and media to big data and cloud technology, all 15 of our investments reflect our commitment to funding solutions that are advancing today’s connected world (Click to Tweet).

Some highlights of the year include our investment in Kumu Networks, a Bay Area company making wireless networks more efficient and evolving 5G services via self-interference cancelation technology, and Veniam, a company working to provide sufficient network bandwidth to millions of connected vehicles. Additionally, our investment in Verdigris Technologies was a natural step for us as we explore new ways to make cities smarter and more energy efficient.

Verizon Ventures continues to be committed to providing its portfolio with resources to scale and develop key business partnerships. In 2016, Verizon Ventures portfolio companies PrecisionHawk and Skyward partnered to offer a full commercial drone service; Driversiti teamed up with SuperShuttle’s parent company Transdev to equip SuperShuttles across the U.S. with Driversiti’s safety analytics software, and Veniam partnered with Singaporean telecommunications company StarHub to build WiFi mesh networks using moving vehicles to expand wireless coverage in Singapore.

We also hosted and sponsored a number of events throughout the year, including our annual Startup Day, which educated the broader Verizon team on the innovations coming out of the Verizon Ventures portfolio, and our signature Venture Forums, gathering thought leaders from startups and VC firms to discuss topics that are shaping the tech and business landscape.
