Conservatives have been waaaay better than liberals and democrats at marketing their ideas. At framing their positions in a positive light.
At framing things in a moral way — freedom, liberty, Merica. Once an issue has been framed in such a way it would go against someone’s definition of themselves to not adopt it.
The newly popular pejorative — snowflake — did not catch on by accident. Neither does the fact that Trump supporters talk nonstop about beta males. In their mind, supporting Trump, in and of itself, makes them an Alpha.
People at Breitbart and Fox News work non-stop to create these terms, slogans and talking points. Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are like advertising copywriters. Always testing new catch phrases and put-downs they can tar their critics with. Coulter may tweet 100 times a week –each time with a new accusation or slander. The ones that really catch on she adopts and repeats. And her followers start repeating them.
Healthcare reform was a “government takeover” that was “rammed down our throats”. Even the term “Obamacare” was coined by it’s opponents. Because they knew their voters hated the guy — and would therefore hate whatever policy had that name. Even though Trump voters LOVE the specific features of the plan. (People in Kentucky hate, hate, hate Obamacare … but they have a favorable view of the exchange it created and that goes by a different name.)
But these people will proudly go into to any discussion on the Internet, repeat the talking points created for them and then leave thinking they have actually accomplished something. And another theme you will see over and over again with the healthcare issue is the belief that they are getting ripped off. That, thanks to Barack Hussein Obama, they are paying for the healthcare of lazy poor people.
The dumbed-down nature of things today happened by design. Conservative interest groups designed it and pursued it with abandon. And when liberals respond with facts and analysis — that is just viewed as more proof that liberals are really weak. If they were strong, Like Mr. Trump, they wouldn’t need all that long winded analysis.
