The Trump Phenomenon and Frustrated Teens: An Analogy

The more I watch the Trump phenomenon the more I see two things going on at the same time. First, the voters themselves seem to be in much the same mindset as a boy in his late teens who wants more control over his life but is not yet 18. They feel they “have no say” and want to nominate Trump for no other reason than to “show” what they see as a patronizing “establishment” that they have some control, even if it is control over something negative. This is much like the high school sophomore who asks “why do I have to go to school, I’m never going to use any of this stuff, why do I have to wait until I am 18 to make my own decisions” and then cuts school just to exercise some control in his life. It doesn’t advance him at all, in fact it is a negative to his advancement, but it gives him a feeling of being in control of his own life and it is just as much about “showing” his parents that he has some control as it is feeling in control himself.

Then you have the media who is playing the role of the friends of another kid who is competing for the same spot on a sports team. The know if the kid cuts school, he might not be allowed to play and their friend will get the spot so they are egging him in “do it! do it! yeah! you’re awesome, don’t let them tell you want to do!” in hopes he does it and their guy wins. The group of friends makes the kid feel really popular for cutting school, not realizing that the people cheering him on are really hoping for his being cut from the team and their guy getting the spot on the team.

There is no possible way Donald Trump will ever be elected to the White House. It is my belief that Trump would lose every single state if he were to get the GOP nomination. It would be a worse loss for the GOP than 1988 was for the Democrats when Mondale won only a single state. In fact, his voters don’t care. Their goal is to simply say “we showed them!” as they get kicked off the team.

In the meantime, the result is that the country gets an inferior President and the rest of us suffer because of selfish emotional frustration based on misinformation fed to them by talk radio and tabloids such as what Breitbart News has become. Every Democrat action is twisted into a “GOP betrayal” by people like Mark Levin. Every attempt at nonsensical, impossible actions in Congress that eventually fail are portrayed as the “GOP establishment” “caving”. They are fed this frustration day after day, year after year. Their frustration is built on a foundation of lies and fabricated “spin” that misleads them. The purpose of all of that being to create controversy, drama and turmoil that results in a lot of content for talk radio hosts and the “conservative” media tabloid websites.

They have no idea that THEY are themselves the “sheeple” being spoon fed a load of baloney designed to benefit those feeding it to them as they are told that everyone else are the “sheeple”. It is just amazing, but that is what happens when we have a dumbing down of this country. Meanwhile, the “conservative” media, talk radio, and the MSM are laughing all the way to the bank.
