What does your appearance say about you?

When you engage in social relationships, you build not only your own image but also images of others around you. These images are based on impressions, social beliefs, expectations, physical traits, individual characteristics, and information about the person. These images and impressions affect, more or less permanently, the way people interact. In this context, we frequently try to deduce personality traits based on others’ face appearance.

Studying facial features is also known as morphopsychology, a science founded in 1937 by Dr. Louis Corman, a psychiatrist, and can be defined as a synthetic reading grid. It covers three main fields: biology, physiology, and psychology. This grid enables us to conduct what we call a “face analysis”. It consists of observing the craniofacial framework, in other words, the bone and muscular frame of the face and profile.

For instance, a wide frame is interpreted as a sign of resistance while a narrow frame means the person is fragile. Face analysis also takes into account those who are observing (their eyes, nose, mouth) and expressing their reactions while analyzing the other person’s face.

If the person observing has large receptors with a narrow frame, it means this person is absorbing more information than he or she can treat and therefore gives an image of fragility. Conversely, if this person has small receptors in a wide frame, it means she/her is a rather concentrated and serious person.

In conclusion, you can deduce someone’s personality by analyzing his/her face!

Face analysis allows us to orient ourselves professionally because it says something about our potential. In fact, several studies have shown that our faces reveal our social status. People are able to identify rich and poor individuals only by looking at their neutral faces. This is due to the fact that our faces reflect the main emotions we keep feeling all along our lives from our late teens or early adulthood. These emotions stay engraved on our faces, which reflects and reveals our experiences.

That’s why happiness is stereotypically associated with being wealthy and satisfied about life.

Our faces are somehow a mirror of our state of mind. This means that our face can have serious implications on our chances to get a job, for example. The 43 muscles forming the features of your face can be a tool for you to get the job of your life.

So, work on your lifestyle and model the face that really reflects who you really are!
