Realising that his days were nearing, a multi-millionaire asked for his grandchildren to be brought to him. As they came running in joy to meet their grandfather, who they didn’t know was nearing his last, asked him, “Grandpa, what story are you going to tell us today?”. The Grandfather replied, “Today, I’m going to share with you my secrets. I have not told these secrets to anyone. These secrets are to be read and practised by you, one every day for the next 50 days. Once you finish 50 days, you start over. Do we have a deal?”. The children replied, “Deal!”

The Grandfather gave each of the children a scroll. The scroll read as below.

Day 1: Understand that life is not fair. Don’t expect it to be.

Day 2: Always remember that 80 percent of your success in any job is based on your ability to deal with people.

Day 3: Wave at the children who are on a school bus.

Day 4: Always compliment the meal when you’re a guest in someone’s house.

Day 5: Count your blessings.

Day 6: Marry only for love.

Day 7: Become someone’s champion.

Day 8: Make someone’s day by paying the small bill for the person who really needs the money.

Day 9: Send your loved one flowers. No reason is required.

Day 10: Show respect for everyone who works for a living, regardless of how trivial their job.

Day 11: Keep a note pad and pencil on your bedside. The most interesting ideas sometimes strike at 3 a.m.

Day 12: Answer the phone with enthusiasm and energy in your voice.

Day 13: Send a lot of Valentine’s Day cards. Sign them with, ‘Someone who thinks you’re terrific.’

Day 14: As often as you can, take a scenic route and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Day 15: Begin each day with some of your favourite music.

Day 16: Visit friends and relatives when they are in hospital; you need to only stay a few minutes.

Day 17: Take charge of your attitude. Don’t let someone else choose it for you.

Day 18: Remember no one makes it alone. Have a grateful heart and be quick to acknowledge those who helped you.

Day 22: Don’t burn bridges. You’ll be surprised how many times you have to cross the same river. If you don’t like that bridge, build another one.

Day 23: Beware of the person who has nothing to lose. They can be lethal.

Day 27: Think twice before burdening a friend with a secret.

Day 28: Keep secrets.

Day 29: Be a good winner.

Day 30: Be a good loser.

Day 31: Don’t allow the phone to interrupt important moments. It is there for your convenience, not the caller’s.

Day 32: Loosen up. Relax. Except for rare life-and-death matters, nothing is as important as it first seems.

Day 33: Become the most positive and enthusiast person you know.

Day 34: Be romantic.

Day 35: Give people a second chance, but not a third.

Day 36: When playing games with children, let them win.

Day 37: Never deprive someone of hope, it might be all that they have.
