Everyone Knows Everything In America
Seems to me, we are at a stalemate in this country. Thanks to the internet and social media, it has become painfully obvious that nobody can be told anything about anything. A nation full of stubborn, and mostly angry, citizens.
What’s worse is in our limited knowledge, we actually think that because of things like Wikipedia and Google, we either do know everything, or can. This has lead to everything ranging from Black Lives Matter to Keyboard warriors frantically typing away on that CNN news article comments section, insisting the FEMA camps are being built, Trump is Hitler, and essentially, we’re all gonna die.
Consider the news. Whether you watch CNN or Fox, you have to face the fact: You are constantly only half informed.
Then there’s the Click Bait sites such as, “News Wars”, “Patriots On Steroids”, “Locked, Loaded, And Hammered”, and “The League of Extraordinary Progressives”. They post articles such as, “What Trump Just Did Will Kill Your Cat!”. Or, “How Obama Just Made It Illegal To Mow Your Own Lawn!” All scare tactics, basted richly in half-truths, and inflicted on an already neurotic public. This crap gets re-shared over and over as if it was Jesus’ own “Sermon on the Mount” (which ironically, I’ve never seen shared).
All this info is thrown into a pot along with a helping of long debunked internet hoaxes, and then believed by a stubborn public who — let’s face it — aren’t able to download every piece of information and intelligence there is which would actually qualify them to be so stubbornly dug in.
Take the current election: Two choices the masses will acknowledge — Trump and Clinton. Two piles of stinking refuse. The public looks about to find someone to blame. Except we were told years ago who was to blame.
Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don’t fall out of the sky. They don’t pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It’s what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you’re going to get selfish, ignorant leaders. Term limits ain’t going to do any good; you’re just going to end up with a brand new bunch of selfish, ignorant Americans. -George Carlin
So, what needs to change is the people. I know, some Infowars addict is going to furiously comment that it’s too far gone for that to work. Who knows, he may be right. But suppose we had a civil war with the current stubborn mindset? What would actually change? Nothing. Not a damn thing. When you can’t tell anyone anything without total resistance, when people are more worried about your tree hanging over onto their property, when you see people in traffic driving like it’s more important to get there first than to get there safe, well, you aren’t going to change a thing. Arrogance is a game changer, and until this plague is remedied, we’re boned. Pure and simple.
