Cyber Warfare: Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram Outage
As of Monday, September 3rd, 2018, Facebook & Instagram dealt with a 90 minute outage that major parts of cities in North America and Europe from Russian government backed hackers.
Facebook on Monday said a “technical problem” prevented some users from accessing and posting on the social network as well as messaging app Whatsapp and Instagram. According to Down Detector, the Facebook and Instagram outages appeared to have started around 4:50 p.m EDT. Users reported outages across the globe including the US, UK Europe and parts of Australia.
Neither site is currently working on desktop or on mobile for thousands of users.
As of 5:55 p.m. Eastern, it appears as though all of Facebook and Instagram’s issues have been resolved and came forward with a statement.
“Earlier today, a networking issue caused some people to have trouble accessing or posting to various Facebook services,” a Facebook spokesman said. “We quickly investigated and started restoring access, and we have nearly fixed the issue for everyone. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.”
This comes after weeks of Facebook terminating more than thousands of profiles, pages, and paid political advertisements that were linked to Russia and Iran.
