THE IMPORTANCE OF TEST CRICKET

Yes, this format is the toughest of all in cricket. Yes, it is also the most important format. And yes, becoming the number 1 test team in the world is equivalent to winning any trophy. We all know these facts, right? But ever wondered why it is like this. Ever wondered why test cricket has been overshadowing the other formats of the game for years. Here are some of my reasons-

  1. DURATION OF PLAY-

Well, playing for 5 consecutive days for 6 hours each day with a rest of maximum 2 hours doesn’t sound really easy right. Imagine how hard it’s gonna be when you actually have to play one of those. Test cricket is the only format where there are unlimited overs. This point makes it important for the players to be fit mentally and physically for all 5 days. Which brings me to my next reason.

2. QUALITY IN PLAYERS.

It is a known fact that many cricketers who have performed well in the shorter formats of the game have not necessarily done well at the level. This is because if you want to survive in the longest format you will be needing a lot more qualities than you need in the shorter formats. For this format cricketers need to be patient, aggressive, good readers of the game and a good thinker. Only a few people in the world are this qualified and talented.
