Virat Kohli: The superstar of India
Did you see him score those brilliant centuries against Australia in the One-Dayers? Or did you see him make 3 consecutive 50s against Australia in the T20s? Because if u didn’t you missed the best batsman at current playing at his best. So, just imagine by yourself how amazing it would have been to watch him like that! In case you are still wondering which batsman am I talking about (which you ideally shouldn’t) it’s obviously Virat Kohli.
He has many records to his name. I mean only in the IND tour of AUS 2016 he made some mind boggling records like- fastest to 7000 ODI runs, fastest to 24 and 25 ODI, only the 2nd batsman after Sunil Gavaskar to make 4 consecutive fifties in an ODI series against and in Australia, he has made 3 consecutive ODI fifties in 3 occasions which is most by any batsman and he has made the 2nd most runs in T20s without being dismissed (199 runs) behind Martin Guptill (219).
If you are still not convinced that he is the most important member of the Indian Cricket team currently, here is a factor of him that can make you change your mind. His captaincy. On this factor you can start arguing that we haven’t seen him do that long enough so you can’t call him a great captain. Well, I agree that we can’t call him a great captain now, but just think that he has been captain of the test team only for a bit over a year and we defeated Sri Lanka in their own grounds after a long wait of 22 years and we whitewashed the (then) no.1 team which crowned us as the new best test team in the world. Yes, we have already become the no.1 test team. And the thing even better than that is that he is at the top of his form currently which has even made him the no.1 T20 batsman in the whole world.
But, obviously with so many positives and gifted talent comes challenges. And his challenges are – Will he be able to perform brilliantly in other conditions ? Or Will he be able to continue his winning streak as a captain in other countries as well?
