Learning About How To Make a Relationship Can Take a Lifetime

People who had been in long term marriages know there are no simple universal rules that always apply. People who have had 50 years of mate relationship experience are annealed by reality.

Hello Steve,

Your comment truly opened a door to me. There are those of us who started dating in the 1960s and then there are those for whom dating is recent. Having been married and held a stable relationship together for many years gives a lot of insight. It’s not all theoretical.

And while there are many exception to the rule, most of the disclosure and dating advice comes from people who are quite young and/or have not had to deal with disclosures (and I mean disclosure in the broadest sense of the word, not just trans-ness). Therefore the theories about “honesty” and the sharing of every single detail for the moment of first contact does come off as a bit overly idealistic.

Great comment and insight, Steve!
