Transsexual Music Video By a Top 40 Band? YES!

Fleetwood Mac’s “Gypsy.”

She was just a wish
She was just a wish
And her memory is all that is left for you now
You see you’re a gypsy
You see you’re a gypsy

Every trans girl who as a child dressed up in her sister’s (mom’s?) clothes knew who and what she truly was and what she wanted to be when she “grew up.” A woman.

We watch the video.

The three dolls are bookends at the beginning and end of the music video — all under beveled glass. The girl who is to be dancing in front of the mirror in a desperate attempt to reclaim her withheld femininity if only in the privacy of her room.

It opens with her looking at herself. Yes! This is who and what I am.

And she ventures out “like tears in rain,” to embrace life a mixture of pain and deliverance. Of sorrow and final freedom that washes over her. Cleansing.

There is the Maxfield Parrish-esque scene of maidens dancing and at the same time the reality of life.

The prayer of thanks

And so with that, maybe my trans sisters will see themselves in a video that lightly touches the pain of our lives.

I hope some of you will respond if this touches you.
