What is the Perfect Website for a start-up business?

You’ve got a brilliant idea for a new product or service that you are convinced will sell like hotcakes. You’ve identified a target market, done your research and drawn up your business plan. Your next step is to set-up a website for your fledgling business. What do you do now?

That’s the scenario and the question facing many new budding entrepreneurs. As the digital world becomes ever more important and the online market place continues to grow, it is essential that start-up businesses work on developing a functional and effective Website design right from day one.

With that in mind, here are three tips for start-up businesses looking to build the perfect website:

  1. Start with a goal and a plan

You cannot just have a website because every business has a website. You have to have a website with a specific purpose in mind. For example, you might want to win more customers, start selling overseas or build the popularity of your brand name. Whatever it is, make sure that right from the beginning your website has a goal in mind.

Additionally, it is equally important to construct a plan as to how you intend to go about achieving your website’s goal. For example, if the aim of your website is to allow you to start selling overseas, you might want to consider and plan providing suitable translations for foreign customers.

Whatever your plan may be, get it down in writing as part of a broader marketing or business plan. That way, you can have it for future reference and use it to shape your online strategy going forward.

2. Get a good domain name

Your domain name is an important decision that you will have to make right at the start of setting up your business’ website and there’s little to do to reverse the decision if you make the wrong choice. Hence, it’s very important to get a good domain name.

A good domain name is the same as the name of your website and your business. Also, it is preferable for it to be a country specific top level domain, for example ‘.co.uk’. This is because search engines will therefore more easily identify your target audience’s location, boosting your rankings. Users will also enjoy faster page loading, enhancing their experience of your website and making them more likely to come back to view it again.

3. Have an adaptable and flexible web design

You won’t achieve your perfect website overnight. The website of your dreams will require hard work, and lots of it. Learning by trial and error is a large part of building your business generally, and that remains the case for building your business’ website. Consequently, you need to have an adaptable and flexible web design that allows you to repeatedly test what users want from your website and respond accordingly.

Conclusion

So, going back to the question posed in the final sentence of the opening paragraph; what do you do now? Well, first you sit down and figure out the goals and aims of your website, as well as a plan to achieve them. Then, you get a good domain name as a matter of first importance. Then, you continually enhance your website by responding to users’ habits and preferences using a flexible and adaptable web design.
