Volta’s first major network upgrade making it capable of supporting more tx/s, while making transactions faster and more reliable.

Phase 1: Volta Lightning

For phase 1 we are going to add Lightning Network functionality to Volta. This will be done using an ad-hoc state channels for transactions, enabling off-chain-first transactions. Using this would increase our theoretical maximum transaction throughput manyfold. This is a layer 2 protocol meaning it utilizes what is available on the Layer 1 network (Volta Mesh) to route transactions.

This will be integrated with the desktop wallet for initial release and will be expanded upon to the rest of the platform when the opportunity arises.

Phase 2: Volta Side

For phase 2 we will add a Volta side chain enabling more secure on-chain transactions at high speed. On the side chain XVT coins can be deposited and withdrawn to the main chain enabled double the performance of the main chain. That all without sacrificing any security. This sidechain will also be smartcontract-enabled allowing you to write programmable contracts with XVT.

Possibly more!

There is a lot of time left in 2019 but we don’t want to promise to much. This is why we’re going to hyper function on these very important projects for this first half year and see if there’s time left for our other projects. We will probably start the development of a lot of future projects in 2019 but because we don’t want to hype up stuff that’s not going to be released anytime soon these projects won’t be listed here. For instance there’s a good chance that Volta will have masternodes in 2019. When we are far enough in production of masternodes more information about them will be made public.
