Since 2009, thousands of people have flocked to Germany to attend one of the most significant events for computer and video games. This year, the number of visitors peaked at a flattering 320,000 in-person attendees from around 100 countries, according to the organizers behind Gamescom. For comparison, 265,000 gamers and game fans visited Gamescom in 2022. Aside from significant titles like Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Alan Wake 2, and Thank Goodness You’re Here, Gamescom visitors could also get a taste of Web3 gaming with Blockchain Gaming Alliance and Immutable.

What are some of the hottest takeaways from Gamescom, and what Web3 games are the most anticipated in 2023 and 2024?

POV: Mingling Around Gamescom

Vorto didn’t attend this year’s Gamescom as the team is working on signing with multiple studios and partners and improving the platform features to support upcoming game titles like Hash Rush. However, we’ve been experiencing the biggest festival for games and gamers vicariously through the lenses, cameras, and reviews of tens of thousands of attendees.

Perhaps the most detailed and awe-induced review is the one from IGN, where the publication summarized all the memorable moments along with their team’s impressions from the biggest gaming event in Europe and broader.

Aside from the gaze-grabbing cosplay on day 5 of Gamescom, the IGN team also shared their insights on the trailers for the upcoming games in 2023 and 2024. Attendees also tried the latest build for the game STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl. The IGN team also mentioned Akatori, Back to the Dawn, Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, The Dust, Lies of P, Off the Grid, and many more interesting titles — it’s hard to pick a favorite as a true gaming fan.

But what about Web3 games and gamer pioneers exploring the Metaverse? Their needs and wants weren’t neglected either, while other players and gamers could also get familiar with some of the leading and upcoming Web3 titles.

Web3 Games on Gamescom: Immutable and Blockchain Gaming Alliance Leading Evolution

Immutable is almost on any list of top Web3 gaming companies and platforms, and Blockchain Gaming Alliance — well, you can’t be into Web3 gaming without knowing about BGA, a major organization committed to promoting blockchain technology in gaming.

Immutable presented a number of exciting upcoming Web3 games, including Infinite Victory, available for pre-registration. The company showcased the first playable version of this sports fusion delight.

Blockchain Gaming Alliance president, the COO of The Sandbox, spoke on several panels during Gamescom, while BGA was also featured at the Web3 gaming social hour organized by Sequence.

The List of the Top Upcoming Web3 Games in 2023 and 2024

What are some of the top anticipated Web3 games promoted at Gamescom this year?

Infinite Victory

Infinite Victory is the new and upcoming Web3 game title with innovative gameplay developed by Bit Fry Studios and supported and promoted by Immutable. Infinite Victory combines basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, and American football, created for 3v3 gameplay. The game requires strategic thinking and is packed with action, reminding players of the iconic Space Jam franchise. Immutable presented the first playable version of the game at Gamescom, while players can already pre-register in anticipation of the game. Infinite Victory will be available in the early Alpha version in fall 2023.

Shardbound

Immutable did dominate the Web3 part of Gamescom, so the platform presented multiple game titles, among which Shardbound was also mentioned. Shardbound is a next-generation strategy game with collectibles, preparing for the Alpha version. Players can already pre-register to play the game, and the Alpha test version will go live on September 7, 2023. The number of registered players for the Alpha test is limited to 1,000, and a portion of the spots will be reserved for Gamescom attendees interested in testing Shardbound.

MetalCore

MetalCore is another game based on the Immutable platform presented at Gamescom 2023, among other upcoming Werb3 games. MetalCore is a free-to-play, first-person/third-person multiplayer mechanized combat game set in the distant future where War Machines fight for dominance. Owned.gg organized a live MetaCore tournament for the game’s Beta test version at Gamescom. Attendees and influencers competed against each other for over $5,000 worth of prizes and mech NFTs. Players can also sign up for the Early Access list.

Battle Derby

Triple O Games introduced Battle Derby, a unique racing game that blends the thrill of arcade driving with intricate strategic elements.Justin Hulog, Immutable’s Chief Studio Officer, eagerly anticipated unveiling the exciting games developed in collaboration with Immutable.

“We can’t wait to reveal some of the incredible games our partners have been crafting alongside us. We’re thrilled to offer a sneak peek into the promising future of gaming that awaits our players.”

Hash Rush

Vorto and the Hash Rush team couldn’t make it to Gamescom 2023, but our hopes are high for 2024. The teams are diligently working on preparing the platform’s functionalities and tweaking the game for the upcoming Early Access, and whitelisting to enable withdrawals and smooth gameplay for Hash Rush players and Wweb3 gaming fans.
