Have a house full of people, and tired of leftovers? Check out these recipes from Kamala Harris to make a complete meal. Includes conversation starters and talking points from the Senator’s campaign.

Kamala roasts chicken (and Doug’s cooking skills)

First, we need to get the entrée in the oven. This one has subtitles, so no sound (or headphones) required. Just sit back, relax, and learn how to properly zest a lemon, chop some herbs, and prep a chicken that looks delicious BEFORE it goes in the oven. With special guest star/sous chef/future First Husband, Douglas Emhoff!

While that’s in the oven, prep the salad dressing

Kamala has been visiting families in Iowa for Sunday dinner, and teaching the press a thing or two about cooking. This salad dressing recipe is one that anyone can do — even the kids. Bonus: it has a math component!

Enough health foods, bring on the bacon fried apples

Kamala shares her mother’s recipe for bacon-fried apples, which sounds and looks amazing. Plus — apples are healthy, so they cancel out the bacon, right? RIGHT? Also, Kamala says bacon is a spice. Filmed during a visit to a voter’s home in Iowa.

Monster cookies for your cookie monsters

There are cooks, and there are bakers. If you’re very lucky, you’ll have someone who can do both in the kitchen. Kamala joined yet another voter in Iowa at her home to bake “Monster Cookies” and talk policy. The voter later reported that she loved talking to the Senator, but the cookies… not so much. Grease your pans before putting them in the oven!

Sen. Harris brings international flair to the kitchen

I have to admit, I envy Kamala’s knife skills! The way she handles the onion alone is astounding. I’m not sure I have the chops to pull these dishes off, but I loved watching her cook with Mindy Kaling. Come for the food, stay for the culture lesson.

And one last side dish for you…

If you’re into politics and cooking with a dollop of gossip, check out The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House by Kate Anderson Brower. Fascinating book about the staffers who serve the First Families, from the Head Usher (think of him as president of the house) to housekeeping, the kitchen staff, and more. A great way to feel connected to the political season AND take a great from politics.
