As soon as WeAreTheCity launched this years #TechWomen100 Awards nominees, it became instant trending status in London on Twitter. Thousands flocked to congratulate what has become the most esteemed platform of recognition for accelerating gender diversity in tech.

Some may recognise the voice of tonight’s host, Julia Streets, from the ever snowballing DiverCity Podcast. Working magic to tame the bustling energy of 400 talented women in tech from the champaign reception into the gala dinner hall, Julia sets the tone for the evening.

“Every time I’m up here it means something’s about to happen, so be ready…” — Julia Streets, #TechWomen100 Host

This year, the #TechWomen100 Awards received record traffic, receiving over 750 nominees! In her opening speech, Managing Director of WeAreTheCity, Vanessa Vallely OBE, remarks on these unprecedented numbers for the awards ceremony.

“We received a record number of nominations this year; 750 to be exact… our 40+ judges struggled to assemble our shortlist!” — Vanessa Vallely OBE

Just before the entrées arrived, Vanessa wets the appetite of the room with some food for thought. Even where some stomachs may turn, she urges all those present and following the event online to follow your gut and commit to the unknown.

“When opportunities arise, and believe me, they will, I need you to take them, even if it scares you.” — Vanessa Vallely OBE, Managing Director of WeAreTheCity
