A ‘Capitol’ start to our trip!
A good night’s sleep and a decent breakfast set us up for a busy day today. Ellen, our tour guide, took us to the Capitol first where we heard about the development of Washington DC as the political capital of the USA. This was followed by a quick stop to the Library of Congress and a photo opportunity on the steps to the Supreme Court. We had lunch in Union Station where some of the pupils managed to squeeze in some shopping. Shame it was for Trump badges and caps!
The highlight of the day was our very own, Morgan, guiding us around the National Gallery and filling us on the likes of Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh. He even had Jack pondering the finer points of the colours of the cherries. From Renaissance art to Moon landings and the Star Ship Enterprise, we ended the day in the Air and Space Museum. I’m certainly glad I don’t have to fly back across the Atlantic on The Spirit of St Louis!
We’re now getting ready to celebrate Meg’s 18th birthday with a meal at Ruby Tuesdays. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MEG! 🎂🎈🎁
