The future of journalism startups isn’t mega-profitable massive online distribution. It’s not about venture backed media orgs. The future of journalism will be something much better for journalism, journalists and their constituents.

The future of journalism is smaller, focused news orgs that are either subject matter experts, focused on highly targeted affinity audiences or those that go back to serving the citizens and readers in neighborhoods, towns, cities and metros.

These startups will not be investable by angels and VC’s and capable of 10X ROI’s — nor should they be — but they will certainly be the type of media and journalism businesses that we need.
