Valuable tip for men in the Silicon Valley: Don’t strip to promote women in tech.

Shocker! Rich, powerful men in the Silicon Valley exploit women in tech at drug-fueled sex parties, according to Brotopia, a new book by Bloomberg TV journalist Emily Chang.

When the powerful VC firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ) discovered one of its own hosting a drug-fueled sex party, they issued a statement saying: “We were dismayed to learn of behavior at the party that was completely at odds with DFJ’s culture, which has been, and will continue to be, built on the values of respect and integrity.”

Dismayed? Really? DFJ must’ve forgotten when partner Tim Draper stripped down and posted the video on YouTube as a stunt to prove how DFJ promotes women in tech. He took off one item of clothing for every female-led company he funded…not nearly enough to get naked.

NEWS FLASH, DFJ—Stripping to promote women in tech is NOT building on values of respect and integrity. So, let’s review the word respect, shall we?

respect | rəˈspekt | noun

1 a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements: the partner regained respect in the venture business by keeping his clothes on.

the state of being admired or respected: the partner respected his female employee by not taking his clothes off.

2 due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others: Some techbros lack respect for women in tech by forcing them to watch a sleazy striptease by a paunchy middle-aged partner in desperate need of manscaping.

3 a particular aspect, point, or detail: DFJ’s record in this respect is a mixed one.

verb [with object]

admire (someone or something) deeply, as a result of their abilities, qualities, or achievements: she was respected by the men she worked with. (as adjective respected) : a respected women in tech.

  • have due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of: I respected her intelligence and capabilities.
  • avoid harming or interfering with: it is incumbent upon all techbros to respect women by not exploiting them at drug-fueled sex parties.
  • agree to recognize and abide by (a legal requirement): she urged all techbros to respect women working in the Silicon Valley.

Hope this helps, boys. Study the definition well. There will be a test coming up, soon.
