Geovanny started running in his home town Cuenca, in Ecuador. As a boy, he dreamed of competing internationally. And although he was able to, on some occasions, to representing his country, he still felt that it was still an outstanding task.

In 2009, while living in Mexico and studying for his masters degree, he decided he wanted to run in the USA. He began looking for his first marathon in NYC and was accepted into the registration. He was very tired after the race, which finished in Central Park, but with the spirit of the crowd, he was able to finish better than expected, and completed the marathon in under 3 hours! Geovanny says he would never have known NYC the way he does now, if it hadn’t been for participating in the NYC Marathon.

The day after the NYC marathon, Geovanny’s friend, Manuel Bravo told him that his NYC race had qualified him for the Boston Marathon. That’s why he found out about the Abbott World Marathon Majors. In 2010, he ran Boston in 2 hours and 55 minutes!

After completing two of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, Geovanny knew he had the commitment and confidence to achieve anything else he wanted to do.

He finished his studies in Mexico and returned to Ecuador in 2012, getting married to Norka, a beautiful woman from Guayaquil.

In 2013, Geovanny got a ballot for the 2014 Tokyo Marathon. He will never forget when he arrived at the Narita Airport in February and received an email from his wife, announcing he was going to be a day! Fueled by this excitement, he ran Tokyo in 3hours and 9 minutes!

The wonderful windy city was Geovanny’s 4th Abbott World Marathon Major and was a spectacular family trip. His goal was a personal best, five years after Boston and he felt very prepared to get the PB! He ran a 2:55 in Chicago!

At the end of 2015 something extraordinary happened to Geovanny and he became part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors Ambassador Team. He love being a part of this team and gets to meet and learn from many marathon runners around the world.

One of Geovanny’s best experiences was this past April at the London Marathon, where he ran for the charity team Children with Cancer. The team was so friendly and gave support throughout the course. It was great. Although he was looking to improve his best personal (currently at 2 hours 44 from the Buenos Aires Marathon in October 2016), he completed London in a time of 2 hours and 52 minutes.

Geovanny is just ONE away from the Berlin Marathon. His training has been conservative and efficient and he hopes to achieve a personal best time in Germany.

Geovanny is currently developing a project called “Libro del Maraton” that consists of writing a book in Spanish language using crowdsourcing methodology (participation of several authors) about experiences and recommendations to run the Abbott World Marathon Majors.
