Andela Bootcamp VII: Day Four
How time flies!Tis day four already.
Today as I entered hogwarts at around 7:30 am,everyone was busy.Eyes glued to the laptop screens and hands on the keyboards.Like every other day, came 9:00am. Time for the usual, warm ups.I learnt some tips of maintaining eye contact with people. Here’s one tip, look at people’s noses when speaking to them.Try that and tell me how it goes.
And class time it was! We started with the morning discussions on ‘how to ensure our codes work’.This is a summary of the discussion from my notebook
- by testing your code
- dry run your code — mental run of the code to determine whether it works as expected
- setting up the right development environment
- document a lot -you learn a lot while documenting
- use code auditing tools
- separation of concern — divide your code into small sections
- code review
We were then introduced to Test Driven Developmet(TDD).This involves implementing code by writing your tests first. The significance is that it improves the quality of your code.Provides clarity and focus of what and how you are trying to achieve. We did an example of how to write a test cases. From the example, I understood the concept, but this one will need practice. No one was born a python wizard.A small little seed soon translates into an oak tree(humble beginnings).
Brown bag — happened over lunch. Each of us was required to share a short background about themselves and say something they are passionate about.Guess what, I was first on the list. Why is there such a thing as an ascending order? At that time, I had two wishes, one, that somehow the order would change and two, that my mom gave me a name starting a letter in the middle of the alphabet.Anyway, when its swimming time, you get into the water and just do it!I went ahead and did it.It was enjoyable listening to all class seven boot campers sharing their passions.Few minutes to the class afternoon session, was pool time for me. By class time my mind was spelling relaxed.More TDD and like I told you, time really does flies, time to bade day four at Andela goodbye caught up with us.Looking forward to day five.See you soon!!
