idea: Holler Chat App

Imagine this… I’m with a group and we’re going to the Tampa Bay Rays baseball game in St. Petesburg, Florida. We’re having a few beers at the popular Fergs bar across the street from the stadium and I have an extra ticket on me because someone bailed. So I type into the chat…

Wade: “Anyone need a ticket for the Rays game? I’m at Fergs and I’ve got an extra 1.”

I didn’t need to post to craigslist and wait for an email and go through all the hastle that is putting an ad up on a site… I just chat it out to anyone nearby. Let’s say a “Jenny” is nearby and she tagged the word “ticket” in the app, indicating she wants to go to the game. She gets a notification when I sent a message nearby with the word “ticket”. Jenny is stoked and replies in the chat…

Jenny: “Wade, I’d love to go. I’m at the patio bar with friends and we’re 1 ticket shy. I’m in the pink Rays baseball cap on.”

Did Jenny have to go to a specific chatroom area? Nope. They just opened the app and the chat was the area they were at now and Jenny was nearby and saw his message. There was nothing blocking Jenny and I from connecting. No “follow me, subscribe here, like my page, etc” bologna.

Okay… flash forward a bit and I am in the game now and I get a chat notification…

Jenny: “@ Wade, My friends are in the Brewhouse bar by the main entrance. Come take a shot with us… you in?

Am I? That sounds awesome! So I reply…

Wade: “@ Jenny, AWESOME! There in 5 minutes, I’ll be looking for your cute pink hat!”

I meet Jenny and her friends, we toast a shot and they thank me for the ticket Jenny scored from me. We have a few more cocktails and strike up conversation with the bartender too. The bartender is enjoying us and learns about the app. I record a video of her and share out a video of her saying…

Wade: <Insert video of beautiful bartender saying, “I’ll kiss the 1st person to come to to my bar, order a beer and say you saw this video!”>

In 3 minutes, 2 guys walk up and say, WE SAW YOUR VIDEO!!! We all cheer, they order beers and we record “the kisses” for proof and put them in the chat. 4 more people appear hoping for the kiss too. Maybe, the bartender dishes out a few more kisses for good measure and they too get pushed to chat and all of a sudden we’ve created a baseball kissing booth and the bartender is loving the extra fun and tips that come with this. This newly created group of once strangers are now linked with this activity and we enjoy the rest of the game together, exchange numbers, and hang out again in the future.

How it could work…

The app shows a map 1st and you in the center of it. There is a radius bubble around you, you set how much coverage you want. Your app then asks the database to give you messages within that radius (much like you ask for pizza shops nearby you on YELP). The app receives the messages and places them in a chat in the order they were created so there’s a progression to the messages. You are at the baseball game so you set it to cover the stadium so you get those messages while you’re there. Let’s say near the end of the game, you want to holler downtown and see what’s going on and where… so you turn the radius up to include surrounding areas as well and you just ask. Someone at a bar downtown send a photo of people doing hilarious kareoke…

Juliette: “Our bride-to-be killing karaoke at #McDintons Pub. Get over here! Bachelorette Party!!!”

It’s 1 app to control how much or how little of the areas chat you want and how loud you want your “holler” to be and how far from you do you want to hear messages too.

Imagine being at NYC’s JFK airport and hollering out…

Wade: “Just landed. Anyone want to split an Uber to Time Square?”

and someone replies…

Mark: “@ Wade YES PLEASE! I’m at the united pickup area, green shirt, blue suitcase.”

This app could be so useful in so many ways! How about when disaster strikes and a church jumps into the chat in a rural town…

Pastor Ben: “That tornado was terrible. If you need a hot meal, cold water and/or a cot to sleep on tonight, come to 1st Lutheran on 4th Street. We’re here for you. God Bless.”

This message could be a difficult thing to pass out to your area without a means like this. This app doesn’t limit you to your audience that has chosen to follow you… your audience is your surrounding and those who want to listen in.
