An Introduction
Waiting for Lorry is two guys’ effort to highlight the stories of the builders of Singapore.
We see them everywhere but we do not know their stories. Together with a few friends, we decide to chat with the workers while they await transportation back to their dormitories. Listening to the stories of the builders of Singapore, we begin to look at them as individuals; individuals whose thoughts, emotions and aspirations are part of our community. With each encounter, we have a greater appreciation for their colourful lives.
More than half a million workers from various countries come together to build Singapore. They are bureaucratically referred to as the ‘foreign worker’ population. However, this population is formed by strands of individuals. We desire to express the individuality of these workers. All of this, to reveal a fundamental truth that everyone knows: they aren’t so different from us.
