What’s the best way to create an infographic?

Infographcis have only been gaining in popularity the past few years. As they’ve gotten more popular, there are more ways than ever to create them. Here are three of the most popular.

Using a designer

This is traditionally how many infographcis a created. The issue with designers is that they tend to be very costly or their time is better spent elsewhere. If you’re fortunate enough to have a designer in house, they’re probably working on your app, UX, or higher end marketing collateral like an ebook. If you outsource you can be spending a ton of money, and have multipule revisions. This can make it hard to get a post up in time to capitalize on any recent trends. It’s only been two days but an infographic on David Letterman’s last top 10 list already seems outdated.

PowerPoint

It’s possible to create an infographic in PowerPoint, and there are a lot of templates out there. Once you want to show more than one or two charts though it becomes very difficult to make an effective infographic in PowerPoint. PowerPoint is best used to add one or two basic charts, but not a full infographic.

Online Tools

There are a number of tools out there such as Venngage which allows you to create free infographics. The benefit of using an online tool like Venngage to create your infographics is that there are dozens if not hundreds of templates. This means you don’t have to worry about getting the design to look good, you just have to put in your data and can have an infographic up and ready to post in a few minutes. For premium users you can also embeded interactive content such as YouTube videos.
