Aww… a photoshoot for your pet?
Because a human’s best friend deserves the best of memories too.
Just as adorable as they are, photographing animals can be just as challenging and frustrating (dare we say!) If you’re planning a pet photoshoot of your four-legged best friend, or hoping to include him in your engagement announcement shoot, then they need to look their cutest. Here are some prop ideas to consider for your next pet photoshoot that will keep the dog interested and the cat distracted.
Fit them wherever they can
If you have one of those pocket dogs, fit them in wherever they will fit — chest of drawers, suitcase, kitchen cupboard, camera equipment… literally anywhere where they will fit.

Tie a Bowtie
One of the most popular props, and probably the most sophisticated too, a bow-tie goes a long way when used as an accessory on your dog, cat, or hamster. It won’t get in their way, they won’t chew it up and you’ll tick all the chic boxes for the photoshoot. These are great if you’re including your pet in a pre-wedding shoot.

Tuck them in
Have yourself a lazy dog or cat? If your pet is an oldie but a goodie, then leave them in their happy spot, the bed. You’ll get them in their element and the photoshoot will go as planned too.

Fairy lights
If your dog won’t chew up everything in sight, then it’s a good idea to incorporate some of the most popular props of the season. Fairy lights can look mystical and nostalgic. Make sure you use battery-operated lights for safety reasons.

Use your kids’ toys
If you’re buying the latest gadgets for your little one, then use them as props for your pets too. Like this very luxurious mini-Lamborghini car… you wouldn’t have to worry about its professional cleaning too.

Ball is their best friend
You don’t need to be told that including a ball for a hyper puppy’s photoshoot is probably the wisest decision of all. Let them play with it when they are getting annoyingly distracted with a camera lens pointing at them, and then click them in action.

Tie a neckerchief
Adorable for baby shoots, and pet shoots; a kerchief is having a major moment in fashion right now, so why should your pet miss out?

F for floaty, F for fun
OK, these are all over holiday ‘grams on Instagram, and for a good reason. Flamingo and swan floaties are very photogenic, so it’s a very good idea to have your pet sit on one of them for this photoshoot. Just make sure they are comfortable in water, if they were to fall in it.

It’s hammock time
Adults love it, and dogs do too. Hammocks are great to pass out in, especially if your pup looks his best when napping.

Flower crown princess
If fashion bloggers and Snapchat-addicts can wear virtual ones, then why should your dog miss out? Check your local pet shop for a flower crown to fit the size of your kitten or puppies’ head. Otherwise try making one on your own with fresh flowers.

Hire a studio
If your pet is patient enough to have a studio photoshoot, then consider booking a studio for a couple of hours and ask your photographer to get indoor lighting. This will expand your range of props; you can set a stage; hire pet costumes; the possibilities are endless…
