The Toll Love Took
Crimson horizons and dew-sprinkled mornings,
Singing him to sleep in this smoky twilight,
Kissing away tears as you cry yourself to sleep,
Never will those full evergreen eyes open again,
The cold shard of metal made a home in your heart,
And the loss made a hole in mine.
Never will the sun filter through our laughter or sunburn our promises again.
I will sleep in pools of cold tears,
Until I, too, am gone.
