Day 5: Some Expert Secrets I Learnt From Reading

Today I finished reading a book which I picked up almost a month ago. It’s one of a series of 2 books which had a profound effect on me in creating Wantrepnr.
The book is called Expert Secrets and it’s written by a guy named Russell Brunson. Russel is a guy who has created an immense amount of success for hismelf over the last 10 years, but specifically over the last few. He’s been in the online marketing space for a while, doing his thing, selling anything from physical books to health and fitness supplements.
The reason this book has had such a profound effect on me was because it taught me about the value in changing people’s lives.
The book has created it’s own movement amongst online marketers and really anyone who wishes to create a movement and help people towards a more enlightened and potential future.
The book can get highly in depth, especially for someone who is not part of the online world, but there were a number of high level takeaways from the book.
The key take aways for me were:
The value of being a great story teller is huge. Stories create power in a presentation and they help people to visualise new realities which they can create in their lives.
Russell demonstrates the power of story telling throughout the entire book. He credits the majority of his success to his ability to tell stories in any format.
He mentions that in some of his presentations he tells more than 1 story per minute, and some of his presentations can go for in excess of an hour.
In other examples outside of Russell, a great story teller who knows how to build brands was Steve Jobs. Jobs could get up in front of a crowd of thousands and amuse his colleagues and peers whilst promoting and building excitement around his businesses.
The man, the myth, the legend was my inspiration to get into sales after starting my career in accounting — best move I have ever made.
Investing in yourself has outstanding benefits
There is a lot of talk about the programs and mastermind’s that Russell has been a part of and also some of which he has created. Some programs cost only a few hundred dollars, others cost 10’s of thousands.
The thing that Russell mentions is that those who pay, sometimes a lot of money, are generally the ones who have the most success.
He mentions that those who don’t pay are those who have no commitment, dedication, urgency or cause around their goals. This generally leads to poor results.
Aligning yourself with the right people breaks you out of the norm and into the extraordinary category.
Throughout the entire book it is clear that Russell has aligned himself with the right people. He makes note of his mentors in every section of the book. It proves that no one man can learn everything it takes to be successful, no matter who they are and how successful they might be.
Aligning yourself with other successful people generally leads to more success.
Whilst I haven aligned myself with people in the flesh I have been making a conscious effort over the last 6 months to get as close to who I consider to be truly great individuals.
My way of doing this has been to read a book a month. Some months I’ve read up to 3. Other month’s I’ve read just one. Regardless of the number, the importance of reading can’t be overestimated. It is absolutely critical personal to personal development.
You’ll hear that a lot from me, but you’ll also hear it a lot from many others who have achieved incredible things in the world.
Start reading with me. Comment or message me if you would like a suggestion on getting started and we can identify what book might be right for you.
Reading consistently, on a few critical topics, has been essential in my ability to change my life in just a few short months.
