Carla runs ReCalm Holistic Therapies from her home in Chiddingfold. After taking her first holistic training course in Indian Head Massage in 2005 Carla realised she‘d found something she was passionate about…

I am a holistic therapist. I set up my own business — ReCalm Holistic Therapies — for women’s health & wellbeing at a practice in Chiddingfold, Godalming.

I have always taken a holistic approach to life to attain the essential balance of mind, body and spirit for good health.

I firmly believe in the importance of looking after your wellbeing, that medical practice has lost touch with ancient techniques and that food is also your medicine.

My business started after I took my first holistic training course in Indian Head Massage at Guildford College in 2005/6. I realised I had…

Being self employed doesn’t always mean starting a business from scratch.

Katie, a Herbalife nutrition coach

I’m a Herbalife nutrition coach.

Approximately 12 years ago I got quite ill with a fatigue issue. I happened to meet someone who looked vibrant and healthy so asked her what she did. She invited me to try Herbalife and although very sceptical I decided to give the program a go. I soon started to feel better, my energy returned and I dropped some excess weight. Friends started to comment and I saw an opportunity to help them. My passion for helping others to better health was ignited! …

Katja divides her time between her part-time job as an IT maintenance analyst and her passion of being a yoga teacher.

I work part time as an IT maintenance analyst for Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty based in the city in London.

Additionally, just over a year ago, I qualified as a yoga teacher and have since been teaching a couple of regular local yoga classes in my spare time.

Working part time with the flexibility of regular home working has enabled me to spend more time with our 3 children as well as pursue teaching yoga.

It developed from a hobby. I had been practising yoga for quite a few years when I decided to take it one step further…

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT is the first major phase in the Making Tax Digital initiative — the government’s plan to make tax administration more effective, more efficient and easier for taxpayers through the introduction of a fully digital tax system. VAT-registered businesses with a turnover above the VAT threshold will be required to digitally record their bookkeeping and submit VAT returns using MTD-compatible accounting software. All VAT returns will have to be filed through HMRC’s new MTD APIs (the interfaces that enable accounting systems to communicate with HMRC’s systems) instead of through the existing portal.

The Making Tax…

Raine had been home with her 4 children for 12 years. With her youngest about to start school she started thinking about how she was going to fill her time. Then she got a text from a friend…

I am an independent travel consultant offering pretty much anything to do with travel — from airport parking, weekend getaways, adventure trips, packages to multi centred holidays. I offer a totally bespoke and personal service and my services are provided free to my clients as I get paid by suppliers when they book.

I had been at home with my four children for 12 years and with my littlest about to go to school, I started to think about how I was going to fill my time. One of my friends had met some travel consultants heading back from their…

Bronnie Ware is an Australian nurse who spent several years working in palliative care. She noticed how, when questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently, common themes surfaced again and again.

Here are five of the most common:

  1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me

2. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard

3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier

After taking 4 years out to be a scuba diving instructor, Camilla, or Mills, became her own boss when she realised there was no way she was returning to a corporate career!

I have a few different businesses, I think it’s really important to have more than one income stream. I have a retreat holiday company in Portugal called Art In The Algarve, I run a successful network marketing company that focuses on nutrition and skincare called Arbonne and I have an online coaching course called HappyMe. I am also training to be a nutritional health coach!

I have such a mixed background: I graduated from uni with a third — seriously who does that! — and I am dyslexic, so wasn’t a very conventional learner. I didn’t fit the mould and…

Kate runs 2 businesses from her home in Chiddingfold. Her first ever job was in a flower shop at the age of 16; now Kate empowers women to realise that it’s never too late to learn new skills.

I wear two hats. For the past 15 years I have been running my own luxury floral styling and wedding flower business. In the last 5 years this branched out into hosting floral workshops and offering 1:1 tuition to both florists already working in the industry and to individuals who have never arranged a flower in their life!

My second hat is my direct sales side-hustle where I have partnered with beauty giant Coty & their smaller company Younique for the past three years. …

My Gmail inbox had reached 10,000 messages and I was feeling overwhelmed. I had a conversation with a friend who at the time had 5 emails in her inbox; the silence when I told her my grand total was inspiration enough.

I read this article and watched this 17-minute video. It took about 5 hours of ruthlessness, but I did it, I achieved Inbox Zero. (Or Inbox Three to be precise).

Things I should have known years ago, I learnt about archiving — your inbox is not for storage, and about filing — don’t waste too much time on it…

Victoria runs her photography business from her home in Godalming. She left behind a job as a civil servant to finally making the decision to go full time with her photography.

Victoria of Victoria Murray Photography and Your Branding Photographer

I’m a photographer and own two photography businesses: Victoria Murray Photography — specialising in capturing newborns and families; and Your Branding Photographer — specialising in personal branding and branding photography for brands and businesses, creating imagery that keeps you at the front of your client’s mind.

I’d never set out to be self-employed and thought I would remain in the corporate career I had entered in my late teens. I’ve always adored education and love variety and meeting new people. My previous job as a civil servant did provide this, but I felt it had taken me as far as…
