This is such great advice! I love my life abroad, but it’s definitely not been the breezy Instagram dream people make it appear. One time the ATM ate my bank card and I couldn’t get a new one for a month because my bank wouldn’t mail it to Serbia. I had to wire myself money, which was expensive and frustrating. Or sometimes my water shuts off randomly here in Ukraine. Never for long, but never at good times.
The advice about considering your job is so key. I know people who are miserable in expat life because of their job. And since their paperwork is tied to their job, they can’t just switch and stay. They end up leaving the country, even if they like it, just to get away from their crummy work situation.
Thanks for sharing!
