From zero (percent) to hero, thanks to Storedot

Most smartphone users that use their phone throughout the day will know that no matter what, the chances are your phone will not last a full day without a little charge here and there. We wake up to the happy sight of a green battery and 100%, leave the house smiling and carelessly forgetting about that too short charging cable, only to be hit by the sudden panic of 3pm and only 20% battery left. We realise we’ve left our charger at home and look around frantically for a little white cable (for iPhone users) that will give our phone just a little more juice to get us through the day.

When we finally find a charger to transition the charge from red to green, we have to wait sometimes up to an hour or two to be back up to full battery. We look for ways to speed up the process; turn it off, put it on airplane mode… But then what? We’ll miss those oh so important text messages and emails that keep us in the loop.

So possibly one of the most remarkable, and probably desired, product at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, is the ‘charger that boosts battery in seconds’. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you read correctly. We no longer need to fret about how much time we have to charge our phones before we can leave the house, because the Israeli start-up Storedot has introduced this magnificent piece of tech that can recharge a phone from almost zero to full capacity ‘in less time than it takes to boil a kettle’. It truly is impressive, however unfortunately it won’t be of use to our current handsets any time soon as the device only works with specific battery types. Nonetheless this invention does open up huge opportunities and I definitely wouldn’t turn down the opportunity of a fully recharged phone in a matter of seconds.

The ‘superfast charging time’ was made possible through using technology that Storedot has been developing, including ‘biological semiconductors made from naturally occurring compounds known as peptides — shore chains of amino acids — which are the building blocks of proteins’. This combination creates the opportunity for a fast recharge, bringing our smartphones back to life in mere seconds.

It does leave to question though, what excuses are going to be left to avoid awkward conversations now that ‘out of battery’ is soon going to be something of the past?!
