After running a highly-functional WEGOGO beta on WeChat and iOS platform with a success of 5,000 transactions as of 2017, WEGOGO is moving towards launching its own WeGold Travel Token in aims to build a decentralized, ‘fair-share’ travel ecosystem that could fairly reward travellers and smaller players.

Founder and CEO of WEGOGO, Mak Chee Wah ‘Mak’ takes the time to tell us how his special trip to Langkawi gave birth to the WEGOGO travel platform.

My name is Mak, I’m the CEO of WEGOGO.

I went on a trip to Langkawi and I chanced upon an operator providing jet ski tour. I always thought that the jet ski activity is a 15-minutes ride along the shores. But this was actually a 3.5 hours ride, across six islands in Langkawi.

One of the highlights was that in one of the islands, we were able to park the jet ski, climb the mountain, and on top of it there was a freshwater lake. Coming back on shore, I thought it would be great if this long tail operator as well as aspirational activities can be featured and shared to everyone. This is how WEGOGO is born.

We are based in Southeast Asia, with headquarters in Singapore. We have marketing and offices in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu, as well as Malaysia and Thailand.

We understand local cultures and are close to our travel activity providers. We have a proven and working system on WeChat and iOS for social sharing and booking of activities. Over 10 island destinations and 400 activities are featured on our platform.
