ARE WE READY TO PASS THE BATON ON THE NEXT LEG OF THE SEASON SWING?

Clouds continue to increase over the area this morning into the early afternoon as rain showers and even a few pockets of sleet try to move on in. Rain and snow showers are having a very hard time moving in because the air at the surface is just too dry. Humidity values are below 40% in most locations with dewpoints in the 20s. This makes for a very harsh environment for rain or snow showers and even sponges to survive.

Its too dry for this guy. Need water hopefully that rain will fall soon.
See moisture working in from the south as rain starts in McDowell, Buchanan, Dickinson, and Tazewell Counties. Still very dry from Beckley to Bluefield even into the Greenbrier Valley as of 9:30am

Temperatures range from the 30s in the Greenbrier to the 40s a little farther south in the coal fields. The precipitation will continue to filter in throughout the day becoming a bit heavier by the late afternoon and early evening hours. Umbrellas will be needed along with the rain gear but the good thing is that we will not see any flooding.

Temperatures as of 9:30am. Right now warming up in the low 40s with upper 30s along the spine of the mountains. High ridge tops will deal with a wintry mix or even a little bit of snowfall. Up to a dusting expected.
Clouds and radar over the last 6 hours show the moisture pushing in from the south. With a little cold air in place we still have the issue of snowfall to deal with along the mountains.

Issues could still occur in areas that have poor drainage but that should be about it. Rainfall amounts look to be around a .5" in most locations with heavier amounts off to the south. Snowfall amounts have come down to less than an inch in portions of Greenbrier and Pocahontas Counties. If anything these accumulations will be confined to grassy and elevated surfaces. Looks as if the warm air will win out in this battle especially since the ground has had plenty of time to warm and all of the past snow pack is gone over the area.

Rainfall amounts up to .5" in most locations. Localized heavier amounts of 1".
Snowfall percentage very low from Lewisburg to Marlinton. Points north and east!
Snowfall totals off to our north a lot worst. Gald we dodged that

High temperatures today will hangout in the low to mid 40s with some areas off to our south nearing 50 degrees as warm air funnels in. It would not be a surprise to see a break of sun or two during the day as well in between the periods of showers.

Todays forecast shows temps in the 40s to near 50. Wind shift late out of the East Southeast pumping in warmer air.

Friday we continue with the rain and maybe even a little snow on the onset in the Greenbrier Valley. The snow threat will diminish quickly though as rain will become heavy with the warm front lifting north. This will be the best bet for any wet weather as the storm system looks to be on top of us by then. Rain showers will continue throughout the day so once again the need for the rain gear. Showers should taper just in time for the evening hours with temperatures hovering in the 40s. Spring arrives fittingly with those showers at 6:45 PM.

Today is the last day of Winter. How fitting that we end on a very sour note as we hand the baton off to Spring tmrw at 6:45 PM

The first full day of Spring starts out great on Saturday. Plenty of sunshine with highs back near 60 degrees. We keep with the sun into Sunday but add a few more clouds back in out ahead of our next cold front. Still dry through Monday though with temperatures cooling back down.

First full day of Spring looking good with highs near 60 degrees.

Next Tuesday into Wednesday though still looks interesting with another chance at some snow. This would be our first Spring snow of the season if it were to occur and only looks confined to the mountains. Stay tuned for further details as that is a long way away. Let’s just get to this fantastic Spring weekend ahead.
