The Kisumu NEAR Bootcamp
Recapping The NEAR Certified Developer Bootcamp held at Lake Hub.
What is the NEAR Certified Developer training process?
The certification program as a developer in the NEAR protocol (NEAR Certified Developer) is a training program aimed for developers that covers the main aspects to be able to develop, test and deploy smart contracts hand in hand with current languages such as AssemblyScript and Rust where the main challenge is to develop from scratch a functional smart contract. The program culminates with a presentation of the result achieved by building a final project and deploying it using the NEAR protocol.
The first edition of the Kisumu bootcamp was carried out at Lake Hub, a tech accelerator and Incubator centre. Web3clubs had 20 developers from Kisumu participating in the event, they made tremendous amounts of progress throughout the program. Participants worked through codebases and live demos at the end of the bootcamp. The goal of the bootcamp was to help developers move from web2 to web3 within the NEAR protocol.
Big thanks to Arthur Kamau, web3clubs own Instructor for making the event a big success. By the way this bootcamp is totally free and I recommend them to all people who want to start developing for the blockchain ecosystem in general; since the languages that NEAR uses are common for other protocols.
On the first day of the bootcamp the Web3clubs team shared the page https://learnnear.club/courses/near-certified-developer-level-1/ which contained the topics, test projects and information necessary to start working on projects. The next thing was to learn the basic concepts in Rust and JavaScript. Finally, the Instructor mentioned the necessary characteristics that the projects needed to meet in order to pass the certification satisfactorily:
- Repository on GitHub with the code of the smart contract.
- Functionalities proposed by the developers for the smart contract
- Unit testing of the code
- Technical documentation of the smart contract (introduction, functionalities, testing and installation)
- Project UX/UI
During the three days we dedicated to development, developers had a chance to engage in hands-on projects to test themselves out and see where they were individually.

About the NEAR bootcamp
This was a 3- day intensive course in May 2022 dedicated to learning how to develop and build on NEAR.
Bootcamp featured 6 sessions across the 3- day course and aimed to teach the necessary skills for building a project using the programming language Rust.
