Are you aware that ESM as introduced to Node.js (putting aside all it’s flaws) are introduced to be a second (inferior to CJS) modules format with no intention to replace CJS?
The biggest issue with ESM is that it’s mostly theoretical design, approved without any POC…

I was not aware, but every time I say “the moving forward path is to fade away from CJS and embrace ES2015+” nobody mentioned CJS should stay there forever. Accordingly, I’m not fully sure that’s the case, but I do hope that’s not otherwise it’s NodeJS being doomed, not the module ecosystem.
