#1 Reason Most Businesses Fail When Marketing

Hey, Geoff here again. Hope this post finds you well. As I talk to more and more business owners I realize there is one huge problem that most people have with their marketing.

The problem lies in who they are marketing to. One of the questions I always lead with when talking to potential clients is “Who are you marketing to?” And do you know what answer I almost always get?

Well after they ask me what I mean by that question they almost always say, “Everyone” or “Everyone in the area.” This a huge red flag! If you are marketing to everyone you are actually marketing to nobody.

When marketing you need to pick somebody specific to market to with every campaign you do. You should be figuring out who your ideal customer is and all of your marketing efforts should be targeted toward that ideal customer.

You need to figure out everything you can about this ideal customer. Who are they? Age, gender(most businesses should be marketing to both guys and gals but you should be doing different campaigns for both), race, what they like, what they do for a living, what are their pains, why would they buy your product/service, etc.

You need to find out as much as you can about your ideal customer. It should feel almost like you are going out on a blind date with them and you want to figure out as much as you can about them to figure out if they are a good match for you.

But this is actually more important than some blind date. I wouldn’t try to kiss them at the end of the night though. They might not like that…

In all seriousness though you need to figure out who your customers are and what they like so that you can appeal to what they like and in turn convince them to like you and your brand.
