Oh, how I wish I had been able to articulate this to myself when I started out in Life — maybe then I wouldn’t have wasted so much of mine on unstable people!
Admittedly, I was on a bit of loser to start with … what with being heterosexual and all [1] … but it surely would’ve resulted in a lot less heartbreak.
The pursuit of Love and Happiness has brought me nothing but misery and it seems to me that ‘Love is … ’
… crawling, naked, through broken glass and dogshit.

Let me pre-empt people at this stage in the proceedings.
Yes, yes .. I know …
It has been said that inside every cynic beats the broken heart of a romantic.
We should bear in mind, however, before we seek romance, let alone true love, that … if we play with broken things … we may well injure ourselves most grievously.
It’s one of the things that fairy-tales and Hollywood don’t prepare us for — nobody warns us that we can’t make unhappy people happy … and they will just make us unhappy along with them instead.
So, I really hope people pay attention to your words here: if you want a healthy relationship, you choose an emotionally-healthy partner.
They are the wisest that will ever be uttered.

[1] I suspect that hermaphrodites were meant to be our third sex [2] … but something went wrong along the way and they’re sterile, so we’re stuck with sex-drives that attract us to people we haven’t a hope of understanding as long as we live … leading to heart-ache and misery as a result.
[2] Plants have three sexes: male, female and bees — so that the male and female plants may breed without ever having to meet, let alone spend time getting on each other’s nerves and, ultimately, despising and abusing each other.
