Faking a Mandate
Michael Arnovitz

We are all familiar with the famous phrase, often attributed to Mark Twain, that ”There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.”

Which just makes your own point for you: it was actually coined by Benjamin Disraeli, not Mark Twain (who simply popularised it in the U.S.) and has never, in fact, ‘been attributed to Mark Twain’ at all.

The problem with U.S. citizens is that they keep telling themselves the lie that they invented everything.
