I thoroughly enjoyed your interview in Seattle Magazine. I was born and raised in the great PacNW and have only recently (the past 4 years) called the Midwest home. Most of my family and friends live in Washington and I enjoy maintaining my loving ties to the area. My oldest daughter lives in Tukwila and is actively involved in Seattle Tilth.

I was pleased to see your mention of ‘neonicotinoids’ in regards to purchasing plants from nurseries and plant markets. I am in the process of researching beekeeping in hopes of having a few of my own hives in the next year or two and have seen many references to the plight of pesticides on the bees.

I also found your term ‘generative’ instead of ‘sustainable’ to be enlightening for me. “….generative- meaning a system-like a garden that produces surplus and promotes sharing” has given me new ideas in how I look at my own projects here on our herb farm. Permaculture is an integral part of our own farming practice and for some reason I tend to relate it to different parts of my farm, not the farm as a generative whole. Yes, I had a ‘light-bulb’ moment.

Well done!
