Day 2: The Boot Camp

The morning started off well at The Andela Boot Camp, at least it was a bit warm compared to the previous day.

The warm up session was really amazing, I mean, they keep your mind running and thinking before the day actually starts. Who wouldn’t want to start their day feeling all energetic and all?

On to the agenda of the day, the previous day we had learnt about:

  1. Control Statements
  2. Loops
  3. Lists
  4. Tuples
  5. Dictionaries

This was somehow just a review of the home study that we had gone through as a process of applying for The Andela Fellowship.

So today we reviewed a topic on loops, which I must say, I really struggle with the FOR LOOP, but after today’s session, I am getting the hang of it and willing to do more practice on it.

After the loop topics, we got introduced to a topic called GIT. I have heard of Github before but I really never knew what it was all about. So after the deep explanation of what GIT is from our trainers Jee and Collins, I believe right now I fully understand what Github is and its importance.

Some of the things I learnt:

  • how to create a repository in Github
  • how to git init (to initialize the git repository)
  • git status
  • git add -A (how to add your files and folders)
  • git commit -m “Then you add a message”
  • and how to push my code to Github using “git push -u origin master”

Other commands that were mentioned was git pull, but we never really got to use them as such.

All in all, it was a lovely exciting day, new concepts learned at the end of every day.
