Marion Baranes, Search Scientist at Deezer kicking-off the meet-up!

There were about 80 people attending the fifth Paris WiMLDS meetup, hosted by Deezer. Our meet-up community counts more than 1100 members! We can’t thank you enough for your support.

To make sure we keep on rocking, our very own Fanny Riols kicked-off our last meet-up by intoducing a new member to the Paris WiMLDS: Marina Vinyes, a Software Engineer in Machine Learning at Criteo.

Chloé could not be with us for the picture : Fanny, Marina, Chiara & Caroline.

In addition, Fanny presented amazing Machine Learning & Data Science events which will take place very soon:

  • On the 17th of May 2018, the DataxDay will take place. Make sure not to miss this data centric conference!
  • Our very own Chloé-Agathe Azencott will give a talk at the dotAI Conference on the 31st of May 2018 in Paris. If you want to attend the conference, you can get a 20% discount using the promo code WIMLDS or clicking on this link. All the talks will be given in English!
  • From the 25th to the 29th of June 2018, Polytechnique will organize a Data Science Summer School . All the details are here if you want to attend world-class workshops, tutorials, practical sessions and poster sessions.

Marion Baranes, Search Scientist at Deezer opend the meet-up with a fascinating talk on spell checking in Deezer search engine. It was a fascinating talk on a pragmatic use of NLP technics. Deezer’s scale is also quite impressive!

As always during our Paris WiMLDS meet-ups, we start with an industry and keep going with an academic one. This time, we were extremely pleased to listen to Assia Benbihi, Phd Student at Centrale Supélec, who volunteered to give a talk on Visual Attention Methods: Teach Robots How to Watch the World.

After our first two Machine Learning Learning & Data Science focused talks, we always end the meet-up with round-tables, panel discussions or tutorials. For the very first time, we invited Netatmo’s VP of Engineering to consider another point of view about engineering.

In France, female CTOs or VPs are not numerous. “You can’t be what you can’t see” and we hope Nathalie’s presence and career will encourage more women to become a leader in their company or lab!

The next meet-up will take place on the 29th of May 2018 at Google. The line-up is super exciting and will be announced soon on our meet-up page. Stay tuned!

If you want to attend other meet-ups in addition to the Paris WiMLDS one, please make sure to check the Twitter thread on the coolest Parisian meet-ups.
