Gaming needs an open source revolution

It would be pretty awesome if there was more open source software and more sharing between companies, but it makes sense that there isn’t in that gaming is a very competitive field in terms of digital products. Considering the large scale that is the gaming community and how many want new experiences from games at a pretty fast rate, it’s understandable why many prefer to keep their formulas to themselves and be able to build on them. But there are ways companies can make it work, like Valve for example with their source engine or even Crytek with CryEngine 5, which now has an easy to access market for free and pay-to-use assets like Unreal 4 does.

I do agree that there should be more information shared, even at least for education purposes. It would really help in courses to be able to experiment with stronger programs instead of many courses having to use Unity and such (not saying Unity’s bad, but it would be nice to see some more variety that’s also a lot more wallet friendly ahah).
