Mental Wellness

You’ve got to get your head right before you get your bread right. Mental wellness is, in my opinion, the most important area that wellness covers. Everything you do, think, say, etc.; depends entirely on your mentality.

A lot of us are trapped in a small mental loop, a problem that doesn’t demand much attention. One thing I can say that I’ve learned, if anything at all, is how to keep my mentality at a good balance. I’ve got a pretty good control system for my mental space that I’d like to share with whoever will indulge me.

First and foremost, I smoke weed. I actually smoke a lot of weed by a lot of people’s standards. I don’t think I smoke that much. I know niggas that smoke way more than I do (Insert meme of cheech and chong), but I digress. I smoke weed because it allows me to ignore my ego. A couple hits from the bong throughout my day and I’m thinking more subjectively rather than objectively. One thing that weed does for many people is it makes it seem like time slows down. You feel like you have more time to think, more time to process, more time to kill, what have you. Thats why it feels like you have so much time right after a perfectly rolled jay. When you feel like you have more time, you feel less stressed. Plain and simple. You perform much better unstressed, not to mention people who are less stressed generally appear more capable and confident.

Another thing I have learned to do is meditate. Yet another stress suppressant. There’s a concept called though stopping, defined as a cognitive intervention technique prescribed by therapists (psychologists and psychiatrists) with the goal of interrupting and removing problematic recurring thought patterns. Proper meditation is synonymous with thought stopping. The concept is to slow your breathing down to induce a catatonic state. Think of your thoughts as snow, a problematic thought is a snowball rolling down hill and the more you think the bigger the “problematic thought” gets. The snowball effect. Stopping your thoughts allows you to step away from the day that is weighing on you. I find after meditation I come back to my life with a new perspective similarly to when you just wake up.

The last thing I will mention, is maintaining a healthy balanced diet. You are what you eat. Take my word, and many others’, word for it when you eat well you feel well. Your brain will thank you many times over. Make sure you eat plenty of greens and fruits. One thing I do is I take a short time out of my week to assess what I’m missing in my diet. Am I getting enough fiber? Am I eating enough fruit? Am I drinking enough water? Balancing a diet doesn’t have to be a rigorous process. Honestly, as long as you stay the fuck away from fast food, you’re in the clear. Just make sure you drink plenty of water. Your body needs to exist in a state of water and alkaline.

Anyways, I’ll step down from my soapbox and let you all resume your day of pondering. These are just things I like to exercise to keep my head in the right place to do what I need to do. Thank you for taking the time to entertain my writing. Also if you like music you can totally check out my production site where I have beats for sale.
