A Navy helicopter pilot, and a federal prosecutor, Mikie Sherrill has a record of getting things done.

As a Naval Academy graduate, a Navy helicopter pilot, and a federal prosecutor, Mikie Sherrill has a record of getting things done. Mikie is running as the Democratic nominee for New Jersey’s 11th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. She has spent nearly her entire life in service to her country.

After graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 1994, Mikie spent almost 10 years on active duty in the United States Navy. She flew missions throughout Europe and the Middle East as a Sea King helicopter pilot. Mikie worked on the Battle Watch Floor in the European Theater during the Iraq invasion, and served as a Flag Aide to the Deputy Commander in Chief of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet.

After leaving the Navy in 2003, Mikie attended law school, earning a degree from Georgetown University. She worked as a lawyer and eventually joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey. As an Outreach and Re-entry Coordinator, Mikie developed programs to help prevent crime in the community. These programs developed trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve, and helped people leaving prison to gain employment, housing, and education in order to restart their lives. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Mikie worked to keep illegal guns off our streets and keep communities safe. She prosecuted federal cases and advised law enforcement on investigations.

Mikie is running for Congress because too many people in New Jersey are concerned about their future, grappling with how they will afford their homes, their kids’ college tuition, or rising healthcare premiums. Seniors worry about the future of Social Security and Medicare. Parents worry about the world that their children will inherit. As a mom, Mikie wants to build the brightest possible future for all of our children and make sure that New Jersey is a place they can raise families of their own. Mikie want us to get back to a place where our leaders in Congress work together to move our country forward regardless of what side of the aisle they occupy. Mikie supports a ban on assault weapons, a woman’s right to choose, making our educational system top quality, providing affordable healthcare to all, protecting Social Security and Medicare, ensuring our veterans receive the benefits and support they have earned, addressing climate change, making our national security the highest priority, addressing the devastating opioid crisis, and creating good-paying jobs for the people of New Jersey and our country. As a Helicopter Aircraft Commander, Mikie never asked if someone was a Republican or a Democrat before starting a mission. She knew they were all Americans and all had the same mission. And her mission now is to bring that experience to Washington, to bring a different kind of leadership to Congress — leadership that will move this country forward and leaders who will listen to people and put their interests ahead of party.

Mikie has received endorsements from the editorial board of the New York Times, Emily’s List,, the Human RIghts Campaign and the New Jersey Chapter of Clean Water Action.

Mikie has a Bachelor’s degree from the United States Naval Academy, a Master’s degree in Global History from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Law Degree from Georgetown University. Mikie and her husband Jason, a fellow Naval Academy graduate, live in Montclair, New Jersey, where they are raising their four children.
