I’m sorry, Xavier. I failed you…

So I’m in this coffee shop and a Chinese man was trying to talk to the baristas in Chinese (with some signing and pointing). The baristas give up and look at me – who just happens to be there, picking up my drink.

I wanted to say, “just because I’m Asian…” 😑

So the man looks at me and tries to make me a translator, and all I could make out was “this cup… has….”

Huhu, nervous laughter, head shake. Baristas laugh. Man gives up. I make my awkward exit. #fail Well… at least I got some words.

(Part of me thinks that if I said, “I’m sorry. I’m bad at this. Can you please speak slowly, “ I would’ve been of better help. But I didn’t feel confident at that moment, put on the spot and all.)
