Yeah, I can see your point on that. I guess it’s difficult to have empathy for a position that you see as being directly threatening to you, however, which is why many people might be unwilling to do that. Empathising isn’t necessarily condoning or colluding, but it can feel that way when you are hurt or threatened — it feels like others may be asking you to understand a position that feels fundamentally threatening to you.

The question is how to overcome those barriers and create a safe space for open discussion…
