Love this article. Sexism comes in many forms, and gender reductionism is insidious- yes, it hides in “compliments” like the ‘office mom’. But we all know that moms are devalued in Western society and in the workplace. Heck- the mere ability to get pregnant is a liability in some corporations.

I remember being given the job of making the pot of office coffee every morning, and my mom being expected to bring carrots to her boss (what??)- the men in the office were above such roles but to keep our jobs we women had to provide personal services. Please.

Yes, being called mum in the office seems innocuous, but it’s part of a culture of reducing women to caretaking, duty-bound, selfless servers.
