I Want to Write A Poem…
I want to write a poem that adds some beauty to the world,
a poem that makes you laugh in recognition,
I want to write a poem that that serves as a mirror,
wiping smudges from reflections with twenty-six letters,
endless combinations and permutations.
I want to write a poem that picks you up and cradles you,
soft sounds that hold you when you’re scared,
and wipe your tears when you’re sad.
I want to write a poem that declutters the mind,
putting down words on paper,
letting go of the things we carry.
I want to write a poem,
even though I never have,
so I can write something — anything — everyday, that’s just for me.
