Drawing by Bernard Tschumi

This work I have used the technique which called The Manhattan transcript by Bernard Tschumi. ‘Architecture is not simply about space and form, but also about event , action, and what happens in space.’, Bernard Tschumi(1976) states. Taking the image above as an example, Mr.Tschumi recorded the murder section of a film, drawing the people movement. Then keep translating until create a whole new building.

The images above are my final work. Frist two photos were taken by me from the entry of market city for recording people movement and events. I just did like what Bernard shows, combining movement and event with the architecture, then draw a outline of the new building. After making the outline, I just turn it into a positive and negative spaces for creating a new form to the architecture. Finally, I created a whole new building according to the movement, as we can seen, there is a spinning door and a front door. Beside the front door, it is a independent space for people reading a book, have a tea or smoking area. Also I have drawn a stair in the top right conner of the architecture, which is transforming from people getting to level 2 by elevator. I make some different form mr.Tschumi’s work, I add the spinning door for showing dynamic. After this assignment, I understand the theory of Bernard Tschumi which is architecture base on human’s movement, event and action. And the images below are my draft.
