Black Mothering Is A Means Of Protest

We are in the same boat. I have three boys under the age of eight. We have had conversations around the dinner table with my father, brother and husband. It hurts that we have to a different conversation about how others may see my boys as a threat, those who fear them because of the outlandish lies that are amplified by media outlets, the realities of other regions outside our neighborhoods, and the outcomes of oppression. But what we pour in our sons, is love. They are able to love their enemies, they are still able to achieve in their education, they are still able to be vessels of change with the truth as their weapon and they are proud generation that has come from generations of black men, who have endured the same horrors of the United States (which shouldn’t be til this day). They will still care for all people despite what others may see them as. They are still expected to walk with their heads high and be empowered by the mom, the dad, the family members and friends who have modeled before them goodness, gentleness, kindness, self-control, love, patience, joy, faithfulness and PEACE. I used to be worry but when I look back how the Black Race is still surviving and thriving in spite of slavery, discrimination, prejudice, lynchings and hate, I am energized by the wrinkles and eyes of my 80 year old grandmothers, to know hope remains and you, we will continue to make a change.
